Internet marketing has generated tremendous amount of buzz in Malaysia, whereby more and more companies recognize the potential in marketing their products in the virtual world. Of course, I do have my fair share of experience when it comes to online marketing, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to fully comprehend the mechanics in such marketing methods.
So what is internet marketing?
Personally, I find the term ‘internet marketing’ to be in its infancy stage, whereby internet marketing experts have branded such marketing method as Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, E-mail Marketing, Pay-Per-Click Advertising, and Web 2.0.
To me, internet marketing is a mixture of different marketing methods, such as the ones in which I have mentioned above. Nevertheless, the goal in marketing one’s product online has always been to gain web exposure, and ultimately to increase the overall sales of one’s product.
How internet marketing can benefit your organization?
Over the years, I have met countless of people, be it businessmen or simply friends who are interested in setting up their online web store – and they all ask me the same question, how internet marketing can benefit me?
My answer is simple – Just imagine placing your web business on one of the busiest junctions in the virtual world, whereby there will be sea of virtual customers walking into your online store, which ultimately can be converted into potential clients or customers for your organization. I did some minor changes to the site and majority of the outgoing links are nofollow now. I was contemplating on this move for a long long time and I believe having a nofollow site definitely has its perks.
I don’t think that the nofollow tags would have immediate effect on Google SEO, probably I’ll see results in 1 or 2 months time?

 Here are a few pointers to help you out for those who want to optimize their site for search engine purposes. Although I might not be ultimate expert, but sometimes sticking to the basics would go a long way for you.
Here are the tips:
1. Title – It’s important to have appropriate title for your site and sub-pages or articles as well.
2. Meta-tags – Both the meta-tags for keywords and description should focus on the keywords that you are targeting
3. Links – Always build links using the keywords which you are targeting. There is a certain ‘validity period’ which Google take into consideration – so it’s wise to continuously build links
4. Keywords – Try using the keywords that you are targeting as many times as possible in your article or generally on your blog as Google would allocate another point for your search engine ranking on this as well
5. Valid HTML – Make sure that your site contains as little error as possible, so that Google spiders/bots could easily scan through your site without incurring HTML error
6. H1, H2 tags – If possible, try highlighting your title or keywords which you are targeting with H1 or H2 tags
It doesn’t require a rocket scientist to understand basic SEO concepts. Try out these simple methods on your site.
