Google October 2008 PR Update
Oh gawd, not another one! It seems Google has been updating their PR table more often then ever. I noticed that they have another PR update today, on the 10th October 2008, and as always, it’s full of surprises.

pr updateI did a check online and none of the SEO related sites have reported this on their blog yet (hopefully I’m the first one though). On of the most interesting articles I found online was on Sphinn, with Matt Cutts as one of the participants.

This is what he said:

ChrisLang, we're always trying to improve our link analysis with algorithmic changes to reduce the weight of paid links that pass PageRank or to better discern what types of links add lots of value to users.

I'm glad that new PageRanks showed up this weekend as expected; after this toolbar update, I expect us to get back to the normal 3-4 month cycle.

AND

reviewmyplace, it's just a toolbar PageRank update. Even if you don't show much PageRank, Google still has 200+ other signals we use in our ranking. It's definitely common to see lower-PageRank sites ranking above higher-PageRank sites--which tends confuses the people who obsess too much about PageRank and who don't focus on other factors that search engines might use to rank pages.

Both the messages were posted 12 days ago – during the first update for the month of October. He mentioned, ‘after this toolbar update, I expect us to get back to the normal 3-4 month cycle.’

Let’s hope that Google DO go back to the 3-4 months cycle after this – as I have a lot of stake when it comes to PR.

BuyBlogReviews.com: Advertiser Refuse to Pay for Service
Paid blogging is part of my online income – although other ‘professional bloggers’ criticizes this form of money making opportunity, like all business-minded people, Money is Money.

I’ve already listed all my money generation secrets on my make money online guides and I have also conveniently placed links below the top taskbar so that you could follow the step-by-step guide to help you get started in making money online.

I’ve been participating on BuyBlogReviews.com for quite sometime now and I’m rating them a very low 2/5.

Why?

At first glance, although they have a huge database of available opportunities on their site for bloggers, somehow they didn’t do a thorough planning for their payment part. Unlike PayPerPost.com and SponsoredReviews.com, advertisers who want to advertise on these sites are required to pay an upfront fee before placing orders. I don’t think the same goes for BuyBlogReviews.com.
BuyBlogReviews Opportunity

Each completed assignments would require advertiser’s approval – I’ve had 5 assignments pending their approval for close to 3 weeks now. I’ve also emailed the admin requesting them to check out what’s the problem and they have yet to reply me.
BuyBlogReviews Pending Opp

I believe that their system is skewed towards advertiser’s benefits – and for unlucky bloggers like me, you’ll get cheated off paid reviews without the advertiser ever paying you a single cent for your hard work.

On other thoughts, this gives me an idea –

Why don’t I create lots of advertising accounts on BuyBlogReviews.com, ask bloggers to write reviews for me, and NOT PAY THEM A SINGLE CENT?

Tools to Check Valid PageRank (PR)
Fake PRI noticed that Google updated PR once again and this time it is aimed at sites with ‘fake’ PR. It’s pretty fascinating on how you can fake PR by simply pointing it or rather redirecting it to another site that has high PR. You can easily determine whether the site’s PR is faked or not by using these services:

DigPageRank.com
CheckPageRank.net

DigPageRank.com might not be 100% accurate as sometime it might tell you that the PR is valid while other times it might return as faked. I find that CheckPageRank.net is rather more accurate and you get additional info such as the number of backlinks on major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and AllTheWeb.

Wireless Power

inlinkedAccording to Yahoo! News Portal, Intel showcased a wireless power broadcasting system which could light up a 60 watt bulb without having any wires connected. Their wireless power system uses magnetic induction principles rather then shooting lightning bolts out of the socket to the electrical appliances.

Google PR Update

Google no longer penalizes bloggers who participate in link selling activities such as Text Link Ads – so long as you have ‘enough original content’ to compensate the paid links on your blog. As a matter of fact, a couple of my blogs got back its PR.

Petrol Price in Malaysia Reduced to RM2.55 a Liter

RM2.70 is painstakingly painful to my wallet – it was already drilling a huge hole in my pocket. The Malaysian Government amicably reduced petrol price to RM2.55 per liter with hopes of reducing the ‘rakyat's’ burden as world petrol price stabilizes at $120 per barrel.

Ringgit Continues to Slide Downwards Against the US Dollar

Good news for people who make money online – bad news for citizens of Malaysia. I checked the papers today and the exchange rates for 1 US Dollar were RM3.36/3.30. I hope that we could get back to the good ‘ol days of RM3.80 / US Dollar. (I might be a little selfish here)…
